A question about Voyager. By the time the spacecraft reach the boundary of our solar system, will the golden records be legible -- or even show any sign of having ever been marked? Gold isn't famous for being the most durable of metals, it seems like an odd choice. Unless they hoped nobody would ever find them, or else they might wonder why we sent a picture of Nyan cat along with the humans.

Gold is inert which means it's not going to change itself. It's not durable to impact but there's not much that should hit it out there.

Can anyone tell me what the word ‘pica’ means? I’m trying to make a connection between pica the illness and pica the bird genus. Are related, connected, coincidental? I figure you’re smart enough to know!

You connected it. The pica bird is a type of magpie and the disease was named after the magpie. A bird that was believed (in Ancient Greece) to eat almost anything.

I was so close to making the connection, and if I’d tried Googling it first, I might even have got there. Thanks!
