YaY so glad to see another one of these episodes drop in my podcatcher last night. Looking forward to jumping in and reading Version Control and Recursion. I too read "the Long Earth" series and whilst I thought it was a great concept found I can remember very little about the stories other than the occasion flash of clever ideas never developed. For the next one of these (and I hope there will be more) could I suggest if possible some women authors if possible.

I have to disagree about The Long Earth series. Not that I think it’s good but I think it is better than Dr Natasha gives it credit for. It is what it is and I think that’s okay. There seems to be a sci-fi style that these books very much fall into and I’m not their target audience either.
However my point of contention is that it is the worst multiverse story when Robert A. Heinlein‘s The Number of the Beast exists.
Interestingly there is a Pratchett short story called The High Meggas which was the original concept that turned into The Long Earth. It’s worthwhile reading and, I feel, supports Greg’s theory that we’d be surprised to find out whose bits were whose.
