Great podcast - good to hear you guys, isn't one of you out installing cutting edge electronics in the Western Australian desert of the SKA. Cherenkov Radiation is my favorite shade of blue. Greg is spot on with his analog about Cherenkov radiation, over at I09 Esther Inglis-Arkell has a piece titled http://io9.gizmodo.com/5947197/cherenkov-radiation-is-a-sonic-boom-for-light.
Not sure who is righter in the Hyena argument, from Wikipedia "...Although phylogenetically they are closer to felines and viverrids, hyenas are behaviourally and morphologically similar to canines in several aspects"? Guess it depends if you think civets are cats or canines.

If people don't agree with you it becomes a Civet War... ahem
I was out helping install new Hexes of dipole tiles for the Murchison Wide-Field Array. If cutting edge radio telescopes are your thing you can read about it http://www.mwatelescope.org/
or read my work blog about the upgrade https://cosmosconsultant.wordpress.com/
